Saturday,December 27, 2025 - And now, the Pacific!

Day 28

It was 7:41pm (UTC+1) yesterday, Friday, December 26, when the eight women of The Famous Project CIC finished crossing the Indian Ocean and entered the vast Pacific, having slipped unchallenged under Tasmania and the vast high-pressure system that has been slowing their progress.
In just under 10 days, they have managed to navigate the pitfalls of the Indian Ocean, overcome serious damage to their mainsail hook, and escape the worst when, traveling at over 30 knots, their starboard foil collided with a drifting net and its floats.
Alexia (Barrier), Dee (Caffari), Annemieke (Bes), Rebecca (Gmür Hornell), Deborah (Blair), Molly (LaPointe), Támara (Echegoyen), and Stacey (Jackson) are now facing the delicate task of negotiating a vast windless zone blocking their path at the entrance of the Pacific. The sea has calmed down and the girls of The Famous Project CIC are struggling not to get caught up in the windless center of the high pressure system.
All night long, they managed to make slow progress eastward, toward the South American continent and the legendary Cape Horn, which is insidiously occupying everyone's thoughts on board. Speeds have dropped and the giant trimaran is seeking salvation by heading further and further south. Alexia and her crew now hope to find the pressure coming from the southwest beyond 50° south latitude. Nearly 4,000 miles of the unknown await them, and it is with a confidence boosted by 28 days of very intense sailing that they tackle this challenging part of their round-the-world trip.
As they sail under New Zealand tomorrow, Sunday, they will have completed half of their colossal challenge, more than 11,000 miles.
