Squad member
Támara, who affectionately goes by Xiquita, comes from Galicia in North-Western Spain.
She started sailing at 6 years old and quickly became a name to follow in Spain. She quickly rose through the classes, from the Optimist to the Laser Radial and 470.

She’s a 4-time Olympian, Olympic Champion and Flag Bearer, as well as round-the-world sailor. From 2010 to 2013, Xiquita was nearly unbeatable on the Match Racing scene. With Ángela Pumariega and Sofía Toro she won the 2010 and 2011 Spanish Championships, 2011 European Championships, and at the 2012 London Olympics they won the Gold Medal.
With a new crew, she won the 2013 World Championships.
She then switched classes to sail the new 49er FX. With Berta Betanzos she won the 2016 World Championships and finished 4th at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

After the Rio Games, Támara took a hiatus from Olympic sailing to compete in the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race on board Mapfre, finishing 2nd in the round-the-world race.
Back in the 49er FX, she won the 2020 World Championships with Paula Barceló and finished 4th in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
In 2024, for her 4th Olympics, Támara was named Spain’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony alongside Marcus Cooper Walz. She finished 12th in the 49er FX with Paula Barceló.
