Annemieke "Bessie" Bes

NED

Squad member

Annemieke started sailing at the age of 12 at the lake of Paterswolde in the Netherlands. She turned out not only to possess great talent but above all an enormous drive.

She took part in the Olympics three times:

  • In London 2012 she made it to the quarter finals in the Elliott 6m Match Racing.
  • In Athens 2004, she sailed in the Yngling Class with Annelies Thies and Petronella de Jong but they just missed the podium with a 4th place finish.
  • In Beijing 2008, Annemieke won the silver medal in the Yngling class with Mandy Mulder and Merel Witteveen.

She was looking for a new adventure and in the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, her dream came true. She sailed around the world with Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag.

In 2023, she raced Leg 1 of the VO65 Sprint Cup on board Viva Mexico, and sailed the last 2 legs of The Ocean Race with Team Holcim-PRB.

In 2025, she once again joined Team Holcim-PRB for La Course des Caps, a non-stop race around the British Isles, where they finished 3rd.
